Bathroom Design Details: Add Instant Style And Sophistication To Your Bathroom

Here's a fun fact - over our lifetime, we spend approximately a year and a half on average in the bathroom! This includes everything, from essential business to showers and baths. Add in the hours for people who just love a long, calming soak, and you end up with some sky-high digits that are hard to overlook!

Now, having this in mind, it's no wonder we all want a bathroom that looks stylish and pleasant to be in. Having a bathroom that's in sync with your style and taste is of utmost importance. It offers you a safe haven to distress in and it also ties your house together, carrying your sense of interior design throughout and rounds everything up!

When renovating (or building) a bathroom, you probably already know the essentials you want. You've chosen a tub, a basin, cabinets that match, that perfect toilet bowl, and have probably decided on the colour scheme. That's all great, but how do you round up the room that rounds everything else up?

The key is always in the details!

In this article we're going to go over some key detail features you need to pay attention to, to make sure that your bathroom is harmonized and on point. They work for every interior style, so don't worry about your bathroom "not qualifying".

Taps

Bathroom lever taps come in all sorts of models and materials. You might not think of your taps as some crucial detail, but in fact, they can really make or break the bathroom.

Prominent, shiny, and something literally everyone uses when they step into your bathroom, your taps need to be in harmony with the rest of your bathroom so that you can gain that nice, attractive, and elegant look.

You'll need to find quality lever basin taps in order to offer your bathroom that sleek look. This means quality materials, impeccable design, and complete functionality. That's why I'm recommending lever taps instead of anything else, as they are simple to use, they look great, and they add just the right bit of pizzazz.

Depending on the interior, there are different colour options you can choose from. If your home is minimal, go for matte black. Matte black shines with sophistication and elegance and will literally scream "minimal". This is also a great option if you have a home revelling in vintage decor, though, something like brass or an intricate steel pattern might suit you better.

One thing you need to figure out about your lever basin tap is whether you'd like a spout and a lever directly above it, acting like one piece, or you'd like the spout on one side and then the lever on the other.

If you have only one basin, I'd recommend going with the unison. It will centre everything and help level the eye and attention. If you have two basins, as is the case in many homes nowadays, a spout on one side and a lever on the other will create the harmony you're looking for.

If you'd like, you can have one lever on the left side and the other on the right, just to cross your T's and dot your I's. Still, if this is something that might not be practical for you, you can forget about it and just go with two of the same.

Mirror

Have you ever been in a bathroom without a mirror? I have, and let me tell you, the feeling that something is missing is so strong you just want to get out of there immediately.

We use the bathroom for grooming alongside all the other things, so it only makes sense to include a mirror in there. In fact, having more than one mirror for different uses is quite a good idea, though this will depend on the space you have available.

The mirror, much like your lever taps is something everyone will use, but unlike the lever taps, it's a somewhat centrepiece of the room. It makes the whole bathroom look and feel bigger as the reflection tricks our mind into believing the space expands beyond what we know is there.

Once again, when choosing a mirror, you need to follow the rest of your bathroom's look. If minimal, go with a simple, monochrome frame of either wood or metal. You can also opt for an interesting geometrical shape to spice things up. Otherwise, you're free to choose a mirror with an intricate frame and many details.

When it comes to how many mirrors you need, it's also up to you and the look you're going for. If you have two basins you can go with two mirrors, although one, long mirror is probably a better idea. It will create a long, seamless line, connecting the two sides of your vanity and it will really harmonize the space. If you have one basin, however, you can still opt for a big mirror, just not one that's too long.

Remember, always follow the lead of what you already have installed and what you're trying to accomplish. Avoid small, plastic mirrors though as they add literally nothing to the space other than a tasteless vibe that can ruin everything. Natural materials, metals, or no frame are all great substitutes!

Lighting

LED lights are something you really need to look into if you want atmospheric bathroom lighting. By incorporating subdued lighting sources in the space, you'll be able to create a relaxing environment you'll love spending time in, especially when it's time for those long, destressing baths.

Make sure you have a general source of light that comes directly from above, as this will be very useful when cleaning is in order, but other than that, I'd recommend to always use the side lighting options. Something about a direct light just makes everything look plain and unimpressive, while sidelights add a touch of class and can be used to highlight certain areas.

One such area is your mirror. LED strips may be the perfect solution here, as they can be easily installed behind the mirror(s) to achieve a backlit effect that's elegant and very interesting to witness. They also help improve visibility as the light has no obstacles on its path to reaching your eyes.

Other light sources you can use are sconces mounted on the walls and maybe even a LED accent piece, like a cute or interesting message that will greet your guests and you every time you enter!

The rule with lighting is to always be creative, but never go overboard! Keep in mind the size of your bathroom and go from there!

To Sum Up

By paying attention to these details you'll be well on your way to create the bathroom of your dreams!

By having quality fixtures, a good mirror, and appropriate lighting you're adding all the right accents to the space, making everything look elegant, classy, and stylish!

What's more, you're creating a space in which, when you close the door, the world can disappear and you can spend some time all by yourself! Adding a music system to the bathroom is also a good thing to have for when you're in need of a soothing shower or bath and clearing your mind!

Pair all of this with cute little decor pieces, plants, essence burners, and more, to give that stamp of approval that's uniquely yours and really make a statement out of this simple room of the house.
