Tips on Implementing Recessed Lighting in Your Home

Recessed lighting or also known as downlights is a great choice for home lighting since it has the power to transform just about any room from boring and simple to modern and clean. Along with a dimmer, the recessed lights can create the atmosphere you want from the most bright to the most intimate. Downlights are coming with three main parts. They have a housing which holds the electrical wiring for the bulb, a ceiling trim which is the only visible part of the light and the bulb. These lights are elegant and practical and provide an ambient layer of lighting in a whole room.
They create a dramatic effect and are a great choice for highlighting architectural features or details. The goal of led recessed lighting is to add visibility and ambiance to your living environment. So if you are about to change your old lighting with downlights here is how to begin with this project.

Wash the wall
You can find led recessed lighting in a number of different configuration. One of the things you can do to improve the lighting in your home is to install downlights and wash the wall instead of the floor. Wall washer is a fixture that is placed on the wall and used to spread light on a bigger surface. In this case, when the light is bounced off a vertical surface, it creates a perfect sense of illumination. This way the main accent goes to the wall rather than the fixture itself.

Choose the right style of trim
Even the smallest details can make a difference in how your home feels and looks like. This means, think well when choosing the trim style for your light fixtures. Recessed lighting is available in wide range of trim options and choosing the right one can make even the most simple ceiling lights feel and look refined. If you want to use recessed lights for minimal applications then install flangeless fixtures. High-end fixtures in metal finishes are a perfect choice for wood ceilings.

Highlight art features and objects
Instead of installing a lot of lighting all around the room, include a spotlight (or few) in the space and let the fixture orient the eye. Just like the wall washers, spotlights along with the narrow beams have the power to draw your attention to a particular object in the room. For example, consider placing a spotlight in your bathroom over the bathtub and the sink and let these fixtures sparkle.

Use dimmers
Installing a dimmer on nearly every light fixture in your home is more than a great idea. Being able to manage the intensity of lighting based on your mood and the atmosphere you want to create is just perfect. This is not useful only for your entertaining areas like a living room. You can install dimmers for your bathroom fixtures, walk-in closets or for your under-cabinet lighting. You can also benefit from installing dimmers because when the bulb is dimmed even for a small percent, you prolong the life span of the bulb.

Choose a bulb colour
There are a lot of light bulbs out there but they are not all created same. Although there are so many great led recessed manufacturers, it is still a good idea to test the colour and quality of the led bulbs before make your final purchase. If you need recessed lights for residential used, choose the warmest bulbs available (generally +/- 2700k). They are very similar and close to halogens but they are still different. Be aware when buying led bulbs. Some of them have very little consistency in colour quality so you may experience different light shades from different fixtures.
