Kids Bedroom - Tips on How to Create a Space Your Children Will Love

When it comes to decorating kids bedrooms, the possibilities are endless. This is a space where you can have a little fun in the form of painted ceilings, patterned rugs and wild wallpapers, or try open shelving to display their favourite things, a gallery or chalkboard wall for their own creations, and even a hidden den under the bed.

Considering the fact that children tend to change their mind easily (let's not talk about teenagers), so in general, it's best to stick to fairly natural furniture and inject the fun via kids accessories such as rugs, bedding and wall stickers. These accents can be layered and changed over time, so the bedroom can grow with the child. Here are some useful tips for decoring a child's bedroom.

Wall Decals

Peel-and-stick decals are a great way to decorate the walls in your child's bedroom, especially if you rent and painting the walls are not allowed. Use these kids accessories as part of an overall scheme. Let your child pick out the decals and together, place them in position. As your child grows older, or simply changed his/her mind, it will be easy to remove the decals to leave the walls bare or add something else.

Study Space

Once your child is old enough to have regular homework and study time, he/she will need an area designed for focused schoolwork and another area to daydream and relax. You don't need an elaborated area for this, a simple desk and adjustable chair is enough for homework time. Consider getting a bean bag or loveseat for the much-needed downtime after a hard day at school.

Organization

As you know, young kids and mess go together. Make organization easier by adding plenty of open shelves with bins or baskets to keep toys and games contained. Open shelves make it easy to access belongings as well as easy to see where each toy goes when playtime is over for the day! Keep alike toys together in separate bins and work with your child until he/she knows the system.

Maximize the Space

If your kid's bedroom is small you can maximize space by pushing the bed against the wall, so that the head of the bed is in a corner. Aside from opening up the floor for playtime, removing open areas around the sleeping space helps avoid the fear of something scary lurking under the bed.

Consider Bunk Beds

Bunk beds are a wonderful solution for small, shared bedrooms. Kids love them, but you might need to set up a rotating schedule if there are arguments on who gets to sleep in the coveted top bunk. Make sure you teach your kids about safety rules. These include no climbing up the side of the bed instead of the ladder, no pushing the bottom bunk out of its frame from underneath, and no roughhousing on the top bunk.
