Different Types of Spa Heating Systems and Their Advantages and Disadvantages

After a long and a busy day, you are finally home and you can't think of anything else except for having a relaxing night in your home spa. Maybe pour yourself a glass of wine and take your favourite book to read as well. In order to enjoy to the fullest, you need balmy water, 25-29 degrees Celsius and because pool water predominately hovers around the 18-20 degree Celsius, you need a heating system that can maintain the pleasant warmth of the water. Therefore, you can choose from the three main types of heating systems available on the market. However, they have different purposes. For example, some are suitable if you want warm water all year round and others if you just want to extend the usage period of your spa by a few months without having an intent to use it in the cold months. So, here is what you should know about the types and how to choose the appropriate one for your home spa.

Heat Pumps

The heat pump water heaters are reliable, efficient, economical and heat the spa all year round providing you with numerous relaxing evenings at home. The heat pumps extract heat from the air like a reverse cycle air conditioner and use that heat to produce hot water. They are very energy-efficient as they use just a small amount of the energy to generate the same amount of heat. However, it takes a longer time to warm up the water in comparison to the gas heaters. But, the fact that they operate regardless of the weather is what makes them the best choice for a home spa. There is also the possibility to have the heat pump water heater installed using your pool filtration system or separate heating provisions with a dedicated circulation pump. Usually, they last for 20 years and don't emit harmful chemicals.

 Solar System

Solar systems are the wonder of the environmentally friendly inventions as there is zero energy consumption in their operation. They work completely by using the energy of the sun making them perfect to use in warm seasons. It may be a costly addition to your home, but it surely pays off during the years. They are also simple to maintain. However, as they are completely dependent on the solar energy, they are not a viable option for places where there isn't a great deal of sunlight. Also, another drawback is that they only extend the season and can't maintain 28 degrees Celsius in winter.

Gas Heaters

Gas heaters are the fastest option for heating the spa and can be used all year round for consistent temperature on demand. They operate by using natural gas or LPG and heat the spa by drawing it into a heating unit and filter. It is very simple to use and can even heat the water to up to 40 degrees Celsius, regardless of the climate. However, they are costly to run and lack longevity compared to the other types. They can only last five years if they are properly installed and maintained. That is why they are not the common choice for a home spa.
